Quilt Repair
2026
This quilt was a wedding quilt made over 60 years ago. It was slept under every night by the creator and her husband, only coming off the bed to be washed. She painted the artwork in the blocks, pieced it and quilted it. Over time, the quilting fell out, the binding opened and batting fell out. I was asked to do something, anything to restore it back to the family to be loved and used. Challenge accepted. I carefully unstitched the remaining binding and quilting. I repaired a seam that had opened over time. I chose to use white batting as the design blocks were so thread bare that natural batting made the blocks look dingy. After requilting it, I put on new binding using the fabric from the backing. Another happy family with a family heirloom stabilized and restored.
